UDES/CDER is organizing a Day on Renewable Energy and Agriculture (JERA’2018) on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 in Bouismail (Press release)
The Solar Equipment Development Unit, affiliated with the Renewable Energy Development Center, is organizing a Day on Renewable Energy and Agriculture (JERA’2018) on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at its headquarters in Bou Ismaïl.
Agriculture and energy are priority sectors that Algeria considers strategic and fundamental to the national economy. Indeed, the agricultural development master plan put in place by the government assigns agriculture the role of a true engine of economic growth, aimed at significantly improving the country’s food security—now considered a matter of national security. These objectives can only be achieved by ensuring a sustainable energy supply.
The energy needs of the agricultural sector continue to grow in line with the increase in population and the expansion of cultivable land. Energy supply to farms remains problematic due to remoteness, high costs of energy products, and difficulties in connecting to the electricity grid. Renewable energies can help address this issue through the many solutions and possibilities they offer. It is in this context that the Solar Equipment Development Unit (UDES/EPST CDER), in collaboration with the Chamber of Agriculture of the Wilaya of Tipaza (CAW), is organizing a Day on Renewable Energies and Agriculture (JERA’2018) at the UDES headquarters on Wednesday, December 26, 2018.
This day will bring together the main stakeholders involved in this issue (researchers, farmers, decision-makers, etc.) to discuss the challenges to be addressed and the strategies to be adopted for integrating renewable energies into the agricultural sector, thereby supporting its development.
JERA’2018 will also serve, based on past experiences, to identify the levers to activate and the obstacles to overcome in order to promote the use of renewable energy systems in the agricultural sector. This event is also an opportunity to discuss the various financial incentive possibilities that can help encourage the adoption of renewable energies in agriculture.
Themes to be discussed during JERA’2018
• Electricity production from renewable energy: pumping, smart irrigation, lighting, etc.
• Solar thermal applications: drying, hot water, cold production
• Water treatment: wastewater purification, desalination, and reuse (for irrigation, cleaning, etc.)
• Bioenergy
