A new patent in the field of bioenergy and the environment is held by the Renewable Energy Development Center.
The Algerian National Institute of Industrial Property recently delivered a patent of invention in the field of bioenergy and environment, entitled «Autonomous biodiesel production system powered by renewable energy, » to the renewable energy development center.
This invention’s objective is to produce biodiesel fuel through an autonomous system powered by renewable energy. The integration of renewable energies will enable the reduction of energy costs by utilizing photovoltaic solar for the circulation pump and agitation on the one hand, and sustainable biogas for heating on the other.
This energy-autonomous system is suitable for use in remote locations, military installations, and places without electrical power.
As per the invention, this system will generate biodiesel by recycling residues, including used edible oils, vegetable oils, and fatty cakes. This will, on the one hand, mitigate the costs associated with residue treatment by local authorities and, on the other hand, mitigate the direct environmental and socio-economic harm that results from the accumulation of these residues. At present, over one hundred thousand tons of these residues are being disposed of in the environment, resulting in significant pollution, particularly in the central region of Algeria, where approximately 78% of the country’s oil mills are located. For the time being, olive oil professionals are compelled to dispose of this waste in the environment. Alternatively, in accordance with the decree, that establishes the limit values for the discharge of industrial liquid effluents (decree n°06-141 of 19 April 2006), nearly all oil mills in the Center region are in violation of the law.
Furthermore, biodiesel is an ecological alternative to diesel since it is less polluting and reduces greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change.
