CDER participation in the Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP24 issues)
The COP24 Climate Change Conference of the Parties which started on 02/12/2018 in Katowice (Poland) is characterized by more important issues than those of COP23.
This COP24 comes less than two months from the publication of the IPCC report (Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Climate Change) on the Impacts of 1.5 ° C global warming which shows that global warming reaching 3 ° C will be saved if we continue with this pace.
Developed countries will exert pressure during this negotiation phase for developing countries to participate in the reduction of greenhouse gases and reach the target of 1.5 ° C. On the other hand, the countries most vulnerable to the risks of climate change find that the actions of developed countries to stem this phenomenon remain very timid compared to what is expected of them and do not meet the aspirations of the international community.
Developing countries, meanwhile, focus on the means of implementing the Paris Agreement in terms of capacity building, transfer of technology and knowledge and the mobilization of funding, and to deal with the issue of migration at the same level as adaptation.
A Talanoa Dialogue or the Facilitation Dialogue will take place during this COP24 in order to present the conclusions of the last IPCC report and to share experiences and good practices in terms of climate actions, be it greenhouse gas reduction efforts, or the development of resilience to the climate threat.
