International conference on wind energy and its applications in Algeria (ICWEAA’2018): Press release
Under the high patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Director General of Scientific Research and Technological Development, the Wind Energy Division of the Renewable Energy Development Center in Bouzarrah is organizing an international conference on wind energy and its applications in Algeria (ICWEAA’2018) on November 6 and 7, 2018 at the National Library of Algeria, El-Hamma, Algiers.
This scientific event is sponsored by IEEE Algeria section, Sonatrach, Sonelgaz, the National Library of Algeria, SCET Energie, Techno Stationery and the Thematic Agency of Research in Science and Technology (ATSRT).
This important scientific event, in which internationally renowned experts will participate, will provide an update on the latest technologies in the wind energy sector. Wind energy is one of the most competitive renewable energies. Global installed capacity is constantly increasing, reaching around 540 Gigawatts in 2017. With regard to Algeria, an ambitious program to develop renewable energies by 2030 has been launched. With a total capacity of 22 Gigawatts, this program provides for the installation of 5 Gigawatts in wind power. However, to date, the currently installed capacity is 10.2 Megawatts. This capacity remains very modest compared to the wind potential available in Algeria.
The purpose of this conference is to bring together researchers, engineers and industrialists to establish an inventory of research in the field of wind energy and launch a reflection on the challenges and opportunities to be met for the effective implementation of this program. The topics chosen for this conference include the assessment of the wind field and the performance of the wind farms, Integration of wind energy into the grid and smart grids, Forecast of wind resources, Energy storage technologies, Aerodynamics of wind turbines and technological developments and Hybrid systems and microgrids.
