Participation of the CDER at the 47th Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) held at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, 13-16 March 2018 and the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the IPCC, 1988-2018.
The Director of the CDER, Prof. Noureddine Yassaa, in his capacity as Vice-Chair of IWG Working Group I, took part in the 47th Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) held at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris , 13-16 March 2018 and the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Giec, 1988-2018, organized on 13 March 2018.

It should be recalled that the IPCC is a scientific body attached to the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environment Program. Its mandate is to assess the state of knowledge about the physical bases of climate change risks due to human influence, its potential impacts, and adaptation and mitigation options. He develops his reports through a critical evaluation on the basis of scientific publications, with rigor, transparency and objectivity. These reports must be relevant to inform political choices without being prescriptive.

After 30 years of activity, IPCC reports are the main reference in the field of climate change for both the scientific community and policy makers.
In this capacity, the IPCC and the former Vice President of the United States of America, Al Gore, received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for their contributions in the field of climate change.
Since its birth in 1988, five evaluation reports have been published by the IPCC: 1990, 1995, 2001, 2007 and 2014.
During this sixth cycle, the Panel will produce three special reports, a methodological report on national greenhouse gas inventories and the sixth Assessment Report.
After the selection of the authors "Coordinator Lead Authors, Lead Authors, Review Editor", the process of preparing the evaluation reports of the three working groups has just been launched at this 47th session of the IPCC. For the first time, six Algerian authors are selected to contribute to the writing of these reports.
These evaluation reports will be added to the three special reports that will be released in October 2018 and September 2019, respectively:
* A special report on the consequences of a global warming of 1.5 ° C above pre-industrial levels and the emission pathways of greenhouse gases compatible with this objective.
* A special report on the links between climate change, desertification, land degradation, sustainable land management, food security and the flow of greenhouse gases in terrestrial ecosystems.
* A special report on the links between climate change, the oceans and the cryosphere.

On the sidelines of the IPCC’s 30th anniversary celebration, Radio France International’s "c’est pas vent" radio show has been broadcast from the UNESCO radio studio on the subject of the contribution of scientists in IPCC activities, in which participated the Prof. Yassaa, as Vice-Chair of IPCC Working Group I, Prof. Youba Sokona, IPCC Vice-Chair, Dr. Abduallah Moksit, IPCC Executive Secretary, and Professor Jean-Paul Moatti, IRD President and CEO, President of the IRD (Research Institute for Development) .
