Second International Symposium on Renewable Hydrogen ISSH2’17.
The Renewable Energy Development Center organized under the high sponsorship of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the support of the National Commission of UNESCO and the International Association of Hydrogenated Energy (IAHE ), the second international symposium on renewable hydrogen ISSH2’17 on November 26 and 27, 2017 at the Mercure Hotel, Bab Ezzouar, Algiers.
This second symposium comes just a week from COP23 on climate change and has attracted a great interest among researchers, PhD students, experts, economic and industrial actors and the media. Discussions have been taking place around technologies for the production, storage and use of hydrogen as an energy carrier as well as its role in the global energy revolution. Power to Gas technologies have been the subject of much discussion in view of their importance, in particular to transform the overproduction of electricity from renewable energy sources into hydrogen gas. The meeting was an opportunity for Algerian researchers and students to learn about the latest advances in the field of hydrogen as an energy vector and a key player in the energy transition and to draw solutions and recommendations.
The official opening of this high level event was given by Prof. Yassaa Noureddine, Director of the Renewable Energy Development Center for, Mr. Cherfaoui, Deputy General Secretary of the Algerian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture of UNESCO, and Mr. Khellaf Abdellah, Director of the Hydrogen Division at the CDER and President of the Organizing Committee of the event, in the presence of the President of the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research, Representatives of the economic and industrial sectors, experts as well as lecturers and communicators of the symposium.
The event took place in plenary lectures given by eminent professors and oral presentations and posters presented by researchers and PhD students from several Algerian universities.
A first conference was presented by a eminent expert in the field of hydrogen, Prof. John William Sheffield of Purdue Polytechnic Institute at Lafayett, Indiana (USA), Vice President of the International Hydrogen Energy Association, entitled "Existing and Future Options for Transport and Distribution of Renewable Hydrogen".
A second lecture was given by an international expert, Prof. Roger Sierens, from the University of Gent Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat (Belgium) with the title "Hydrogen Application Hydrogen is Still the Fuel of the Future For IC Engines".
A third conference was presented by Professor Benini, Ex-General Director of the National Office of Scientific Research entitled "Hydrogen as energy of the future".
In the lobby of the hotel, the CDER exhibited through a stand its areas of activity and two prototypes made by its researchers namely:
A Renewable Hydrogen Torch,
An electric bike with hydrogen,
An estimation map of the global irradiation on a horizontal surface on the national territory,
A map of wind speed in Algeria at 10 m from the ground,
An application of agro-food waste for the depollution of wastewater,
Recovery and recycling of organic waste for the production of biofuels,
The deposit of bioenergy in Algeria.
Kaddour hakima, Scientific and Technological Information Officer, CDER.
