The CDER celebrates the Planetary Event Earth Hour 2017
The Renewable Energy Development Center participated in the "Earth hour" event organized under the patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelaziz BOUTEFLIKA by the SIDRA association and in collaboration with several actors, on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the Ibn Khaldoun room and at the big post office in Algiers.
Earth Hour or an hour for the planet is the biggest environmental event in the world, it is celebrated on the last Saturday of March of every year since 2007 in more than 178 countries and for the 3rd time in Algeria. This event is part of the public awareness campaign of environmental protection and reducing the consumption of fossil energy by turning off the lights for one hour between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm and encouraging The use of renewable energies.
This event took place at the big post office in Algiers and the Ibn Khaldoun room, in the presence of the Minister of the Post and Information and Communication Technologies, Mrs. Houda Imane FERAOUN, the Minister of Communication , Mr Hamid GRINE, and the Wali of Algiers, Mr Abdelkader ZOUKH. On the program of this day, several scientific and cultural activities were animated by the children and young people of the associations and green clubs as well as a group of musicians (IMZAD) around the subject of the preservation of the environment for the future generations.
The CDER participated fully in this event by conducting debates and awareness programs on the Algerian radio and television stations. An estimate of the gains in electrical energy and natural gas as well as in atmospheric pollution by the emission of CO2 has been given by our economist. For this hour, we can save 7.8 GWh of energy, 1.9 million m3 of natural gas and 3800 tons of CO2.
At the end of the celebration, the participants moved to the big post office to witness the extinction of the lights of several monuments as well as the coast of Algiers in the presence of a crowd of citizens and the media.
