Wind energy in Algeria: a brief overview
In Algeria, the first attempt to connect wind turbines to electric grid was in 1957, with the installation of a wind generator of 100 kW in the site of Grand Vent (Algiers). Conceived by the French ingeneer Andreau, the prototype was initially set in St-Alban in England. This double-blade pneumatic turbine, of variable path, of 30 m of height and with 25 m of diameter (figure 1) had been purchased by Electricité et Gaz d’Algérie then disassembled and installed in Algeria (1)...
