Professor Noureddine Yassaa, Director of the CDER, elected at the IPCC Bureau

Noureddine Yassaa, Director of the Renewable Energy Development Center was elected, representing Algeria, Member of the Bureau of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as the Vice-President of the Working Group number I : the scientific knowledge of climate. During the meeting of the 42nd session of the IPCC held at Dubrovnik in Croatia. The IPCC Chair returned to Dr. Hoesung of the Republic of Corea.
With the nomination of Professor Yassaa, Algeria reachs for the first time the IPCC Bureau. This appointment which came with the adoption of New York of the new objectives for sustainable development among which the fight against climate change and the standing of the Conference (COP21)on Climate Change in Paris in December proves the international recognition for the Algerian scientific expertise in climate change, a field that has been reserved once to developped countries, the commitment of Algeria as well as its remarkable international leadership in the fight against global warming. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was created in 1988 by two UN bodies : The World Meteorology Organization (WMO) AND THE United Nation Environment Program (UNEP) in order to provide detailed evaluations of the state of scientifi, technical and socioeconomic knowledge on climate change, its causes, its potential repercussions and the response strategies.
Since then, the IPCC established five multivolume assessment reports . The last one of the fifth assessment report (RE5) has been adopted by all the state members ( also members of the WMO) in November 2014. the next report would be prepared in the period 2015-2022 ( 6 to 7 years). The IPCC and the former Vice-President of the USA, Al Gore, received the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2007 for their contribution in the domaine of climate change.
