Project: Study and supervision of a photovoltaic / wind hybrid system with energy storage

Abstract:
The hybrid systems with renewable energy sources for decentralized electricity production are coupled, generally, with the network either isolated from the network or thus associated to an energy storage device. The experimental system of the CDER is an autonomous system with energy storage not connected to the network but that can be coupled with the network. This system allows to obtain several operating scenarios:

  • Only photovoltaic operating (Connected wind turbine) ;
  • Only wind operating (disconnected PV generator) ;
  • Hybrid PV/wind operating.

An optimal sizing and a good energy management of PV/Wind hybrid system used to ensure a good security of supply, improved energy quality and a good system performance. Optimal control should ensure a better functioning of all the components of the system by allowing them to work on their maximum power points and minimize the unused energy.

This research project concerns the development of an IT tool (software) for optimally sizing of autonomous hybrid energy systems on one hand. Secondly, it relates to the design and the realization of an electronic device grouping an algorithm of optimal command allowing to extract the maximum of power of PV generators and wind energy and a strategy of command for an optimal management of energy flows within the system. In addition, of these two functions, this device allows to protect batteries against overload and the excessive discharge.

Objectives:

  • Performances Evaluation of the PV / Wind hybrid energy system with battery storage under real operating conditions (solar radiation, wind speed, load, etc….);
  • Analysis of the operating strategy of the existing system;
  • Development of an IT tool (software) for optimally sizing of autonomous hybrid energy systems;
  • Implementation of a command law to optimize the energy production of the PV generator ;
  • Design and realization of a control system and energy management of the hybrid system.
