Project: Study of technical and economic feasibility of a wind farm using heuristics methods
Abstract:
This project is a research work of current events with a real national interest. It concerns the technical-economic feasibility study of a wind farm and joins in the problem of the development of renewable energy. This work will begin with the evaluation of performances of the various tools necessary for the statistical analysis of the wind data. Then, and by basing itself on the wind Atlas of Algeria, we shall select the windiest sites, and for each of these sites, we shall estimate the wind potential by means of a code of calculation CFD (Computational fluid dynamics). On the other hand, we shall approach the main points having a big influence on performances of a wind farm namely: The stochastic nature of the wind and the optimal location of wind turbines to reduce the negative effect of the trail turbulences. Thus, we shall be capable of finding the best possible configuration of wind farms, driven to a better electric production. As regards the economic aspect, we shall estimate all the costs linked to the purchase and to the installation of wind generators as well as to the necessary infrastructure for connecting to the network, without forgetting the exploitation and maintenance. It will allow determining the cost of the most attractive produced kilowatt-hour, which will help us in the selection of the most eligible site for the setting-up of wind farms.
Objectives:
- Develop the know-how of the research team concerning expertise, counseling and feasibility study of all projects in relation with wind energy. The expertise of the team will focus on:
- Assess the wind potential in a given area.
- Analyze different layouts of wind turbines in a given wind park and this, in order to reduce wake losses and maximize the annual production.
- Study of the different technical solutions relating to the integration of wind turbines to the electrical grid.
- Estimation of the cost of the kilowatt-hour produced. This indicator of economic profitability will help in the selection of the most eligible site for the setting-up of wind farms. This cost considers the costs of the construction of the wind farm, the connection to the electricity network, as well as the costs of functioning and maintenance.
- With the acquired skills, the team will be authorized to accompany technically, all projects which are going to be launched by the Algerian government. Besides, our research team will make benefit from its skills by participating in possible programs of training intended for the staff who will be involved afterward in the operations of maintenance and exploitation.
