Project: Realization of a meteorological station network, dedicated to the wind resource assessment in Algeria

Abstract:
The aim of this project is to evaluate the wind energy potential in Algeria. It will include, the multiplication of measurement point’s number in the collect of wind data (speed and direction) on one side, and getting data of superior quality on the other hand. The masts measures installation will be released at sites belonging to institutions under the supervision of MESRS.
To get quality measures, it must be taken into consideration the choice of the sites which must be compliant the rules of classical evolution dictated by the MWO (Meteorological World Office) with a higher frequency in the recording of wind parameters.
The results of this project will lead to improve the Algerian wind Atlas and obtaining reliable resources data and dedicated exclusively to the study of renewable energy resources. The different steps are defined as follows : site selection, measures equipment procurement including masts and sensors, installation and securing of the equipment, collect of recorded meteorological data, statistical studies in terms of data processing and study of the vertical and horizontal wind profile.

Objectives:

  • Improve the meteorological data quality,
  • Enrich the data base continuously,
  • Collected data will be exploited in order to :
  • Establish a new model in statistical study which avoids the limits of the Weibull function,
  • Establish new model of vertical extrapolation,
  • Identify new sites exposed to strong and continuous wind,
  • Contribute to updating the win map in Algeria.
