Work visit of the IPCC’s Vice-President to Algeria
The Vice-President of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and candidate for the Presidency of this scientific body, Prof. Jean-Pascal van Ypersele made a work visit to Algeria, the 05th May 2015. Accompanied by the Focal Point of the IPCC in Algeria, Prof. Noureddine Yassaa, Director of the CDER, Prof. Van Ypersele began his visit with an interview at the Ministry of Land Planning and Environment before being received by Mister the General Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. M’hamed Mohamed Salah Eddine Siddiki. The talks turned for the biggest part around the last IPCC evaluation report and the programme and the vision of Prof. van Ypersele on the future activities of the IPCC wether he would chair it. He finished his visit with a conference he gave at the Diplomatic and International Relations Institute in presence of experts, researchers and top-level from different sectors. During his presentation, Prof. van Ypersele exposed, focusing on the African continent, scientific elements bounded to climate change, consequences, adaptation and weakness toward climate change and mitigation measures of climate change. A very interesting and fruitfull debat followed. It is to note that the election of the new bureau of the IPCC will occure in October in Croatia.
