Algerian Solar Atlas

Ref : Yaiche, M. R., Bouhanik, A., Bekkouche, S. M. A., Malek, A. & Benouaz, T. Revised solar maps of Algeria based on sunshine duration. Energy Conversion and Management 82, 114–123 (2014).

With the celebration of the Winter Solstice Day, the Center of Renewable Energies Development (CDER) publish the first volume of Atlas dedicated to the evaluation of renewable resources wells in Algeria. The Center of Renewable Energies Development choosed to dedicate this first edition to Algerian solar field, one of the most important in the world.

To bring out this Atlas, the authors developed a new method, scientifically approved, by estimating the global solar irradiation for different types of sky, from the measured time insolation.

The study was on 48 sites scattered equally throughout the country, for which we have datas on time insolation measured over 11 years ( National Meteorological Office, 1992-2002). The application of the developed method of calculation, allowed to draw a solar map of different inclinations and orientations.

Scientists and socioeconomic actors will welcome this new source of essential datas in design, developement, realization and evaluation of solar energy systems efficiency. These datas will also be useful in the design of bioclimatic buildings.

I would like to thank the authors, Redha Yaiche et Abdellah Bouhanik, for their work which led to the creation of this first solar altal in Algeria, and i hope that it will participate to the development of renewable energies in Algeria.
