A visit of a Saudi delegation to the UDES, CDER, Bou-Ismail
Within the visit organized by the Scientific Research and technological Development Branch, DGRST, at the research centers, and to show the Algerian scientific potential in research and innovation, the Solar Equipment Developement Unit (UDES), affiliated to the Renewable Energies Development Center (CDER), received during the 2nd of December, 2014, a Saudi delegation chaired by his excellency Dr. Mohammad Abdualaziz Al-ohali, the Secretary Assistant of Higher Education and Academical Affairs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in presence of the Research advisor at the Scientific Research and Technological Development Branch, Professor Tahar Sahraoui and Dr Said Diaf, Deputy Director of the EPST CDER.
After a short welcome speech, a communication entitled " Algeria and renewable energies challanges " was presented by Dr. Sahrawi, showing the important potential and undeniable assets of renewable energies in Algeria as well as the existing considerable and inexhaustible resources of these energies not yet exploited as the exceptional solar field which covers a surface of 2.381.745 Km2, with more than 3000 sunshine hours a year and the existence of an easily mobilizable wind and geothermal considerable energy potential.
In that purpose, Dr. Sahrawi emphasized on the main purpose of the new Algerian politicy for renewable energies and the preparation of the post-petroleum era. In his intervention, he indicated that Algeria plans to produce by 2020 so much electricity from renewable energies as it produces at present from power plants fed with natural gas. This ambitious development program of renewable energies should allow Algeria to produce 40 % of its needs for electricity from renewable energies in 2020 and to export towards Europe. The success of this new development program of renewable energies requires a good preparation regarding studies and regarding financing funds.
It should be noted that the participants took this opportunity to discuss the natural resources exploitation issue, and evoke the impact of dust clouds on the energy sources of both countries.
At the end of the visit, the Saudi delegation was able to ask about research and development works led in the different laboratories of the UDES.
